What is Garcinia cambogia extract HCA?

Garcinia cambogia is a small tropical fruit that grows in India and parts of Asia and Africa. Garcinia cambogia extract, known as hydroxycitric acid (HCA), is popular in many herbal weight loss products including the banned Hydroxycut.

How does Garcinia cambogia extract HCA aid weight loss?

Garcinia cambogia extract (HCA) claims to suppress appetite and improve fat burning. Several studies have shown that it does aid weight loss; however there are other studies that are less conclusive.

Garcinia cambogia extract HCA is not a stimulant (like caffeine) or an appetite suppressant drug, both of which work directly on the nerve centres of the brain and can have undesired side effects, including causing food binges any time you stop taking them.

Instead, HCA satisfies the body’s need for energy and improves the signalling system that the body uses to tell the brain when it has eaten enough. This response is often delayed in overweight people, causing them to continue to eat more than they need.

As well as decreasing appetite, HCA inhibits fat storage and encourages calorie burning. The result is more energy and less bulk, and while HCA accelerates the breakdown and dispersal of fat, it also reduces excess cholesterol.

Garcinia cambogia extract HCA is reported to work best in combination with chromium, which helps regulate the body’s blood sugar levels. Chromium is a mineral that is often lacking in our diets as we get older and a chromium deficit can contribute to weight gain and possibly diabetes. However if you have diabetes already, you should see your doctor before taking any products containing chromium.

Garcinia Cambogia HCA side Effects

Garcinia Cambogia HCA has been extensively tested on both human and animal subjects and no side effects have been found when used by healthy adults. However, and as in the case of most weight loss supplements, it is best to be cautious and do not take Garcinia Cambogia HCA if you are pregnant or breast feeding or if you suffer from migraine, arthritis diabetes or Alzheimer. It is recommended to consult your doctor before using Garcinia Cambogia HCA or any other slimming supplement.

Garcinia cambogia extract HCA is usually sold in capsule form, standardized to include a percentage of the active ingredient HCA. Only brands standardized to 50% or greater HCA are generally recommended. For maximum effect, the daily dose is divided in three parts, taking one or more capsules 30 to 60 minutes before each meal.
