The BMI calculator provided here is suitable for adults only. For children and teens, the BMI calculation method is slightly different than the one provided here. For a children and teen BMI calculator please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
How to Calculate Your BMI
You can calculate your BMI value by dividing your weight (in kilograms) by your height (in meters) squared. For example, if your weight is 74Kg and your height is 1.80m than your BMI would be 22.84 (i.e. 74/(1.80×1.80)). Alternatively, you can use our BMI calculator to estimate your BMI.
What does the BMI Value mean?
According to BMI values, you are:
- Underweight if your BMI is less than 18.5
- Normal Weight if your BMI is between 18.5 and 25
- Overweight if your BMI is between 25 and 30
- Obese if your BMI is between 30 and 40
- Very Obese if your BMI is greater than 40
Accuracy of BMI
The BMI value is not an accurate measurement for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It’s also not accurate if you’re an athlete or very muscular. In this case, your body muscles weigh more than your body fat which can lead to a higher BMI even if you have a healthy level of body fat.
